Hot Connections: Layering Metals

Instructor: Iris Rogers Melamed 

Course outline: This is the next step in our soldering journey! Now that we have mastered joining the ends of sterling silver wire and sheet together, we will move on to layering silver and copper together.  In creating our pieces, we will also explore texturing, using bezel cups, creating simple bails, patina and finishing. 

Three projects will be completed in class: a simple silver on copper overlay, a silver on silver overlay, and a larger silver on copper overlay with a bezel cup.  We will talk about designing the projects, incorporating your ideas into this technique.

As this is a full day class, please bring a lunch with you; coffee and cold drinks will be provided.

Technique focus: Sweat soldering sterling silver and copper

Skill level: Advanced beginner

Prerequisites: Hot Connections 1 and Introduction to Sawing and Piercing, or experience solder with a micro torch and using a jeweller's saw.
