Weekly Class Update

Have we ever got a full lineup this week! Certainly something for just about everyone - and of course when you take a class, you also get  a discount on store items on the day of the class!


Discover Lampworking - 2 hours of molten fun with Becky Greenall - Wednesday, October 24th - 6:30 to 8:30 PM.




Have you thought about taking a lampworking class but you're not sure if fire and glass is your thing? Come give it a try for 2 hours and see if it sparks your interest!. This class is perfect for those who love lampwork beads and would like to experience first hand what goes into making lampwork beads. This class is also great for those trying to determine if a formal introductory lampworking class is something you would enjoy.

Please note: This class is not intended as a training course. In order to rent studio time, a full introductory course is nessesary.

Skill Level: Total beginner with a curiosity about lampworking.




Learn an Open-weave chainmaille that you can use to accent Regaliz Licorice leather and make a beautiful bracelet.

Technique Focus: Chainmaille

Create Jewelry with a Felted Cane - Dawn Liu Smith - Friday, October 26th - 6 to 9pm



Students will use merino wool roving to design and wet-felt a wool cane which can then be cut into sections to be used as jewellery components. Students will be encouraged to explore colour and texture as they work with the wool fibres. Some basic stringing and bead stitching will also be covered so that students may string and embellish their jewellery pieces.
Wet-felting is a very physical process so students should be prepared to use their arms and hands to roll and manipulate the felt in process.

This workshop is suitable for both the beginner and experienced fibre artist.
Overview of wool characteristics, the felting process, and material used. Colour combining and choosing of materials. Handling and laying of wool. Wet-felting-the process, tips and tricks. Basic bead stringing, stitching and embellishment of final pieces. Show, share and critique.

Skill Level: Suitable for beginner and more skilled jewellery artists.
Focus Technique: Wet-felting, Stringing and bead stitching as embellishment.

Introduction to Chinese Knotting with Angela Peace - Saturday, October 27th from 11am to 2pm



This course will introduce you to the traditional art of Chinese knotting. Learn to tie two types of button knots and how to incorporate them into your jewelry designs.
These two knots can be tied alone or in multiples to make a unique necklace cord or tied between beads to add texture to a design.

The class project will be a pair of knotted earrings with choice of beads and cord colour.

5 Hour Introduction to Lampworking with Amy Waldman-Smith - Saturday, October 27th from 11am to 4:30pm




This class will introduce you to the wonderful world of making lampworked or flameworked beads. Topics covered include:
  1. Overview of the equipment and tools, basic safety information. Setting up a home studio is also discussed.
  2. Types of glass
  3. Making Glass Beads
Students usually make about 6 -12 beads, depending on their aptitude. The beads you make in class will be kiln-annealed and will be available for pick-up the following day. If you are from out of town, we are happy to mail them to you at no extra charge.

Skill Level: Beginner
Prerequisite: N/A
Technique:  How to make a basic round bead, dot beads, bumpy beads, stringers, shaped beads, encasing, florals, and other techniques as time permits, and depending on aptitude.


Basic Bead Crochet with Amy Waldman-Smith - Sunday, October 28th from 11am to 2pm




In this class, students will begin by learning basic bead crochet techniques on large beads and then move onto size 8 seed beads to begin creating a solid or patterned necklace. Amy will help you design and start your necklace.

Students can either bring their own beads from home, or purchase them on the day of the class at beadFX. Students receive a 15% discount on the day of the class.
Unique lampwork beads created by Amy will be available to students at a discounted rate if they wish to purchase a focal bead for their necklace.

Please note: This is not a class for knitters looking to add beads to their repertoire. This class involves working strictly with beads.

Metal Clay Playday with Jennifer Tough - Sunday, October 28th from 11am to 4pm



Note: This is not a class, and is intended only for those that already have some experience with metal clay.

Would you like to work on your metal clay projects in a fun, social and supportive environment? Join us during our periodic play days. We will provide access to basic tools and texture plates, but you are required to either bring or purchase your own Art Clay and supplies. You may also peruse our extensive library of videos and books during the day.  Kiln time will also be available for a nominal fee.
