Did the little monsters leave you any candy? Still have a
bag of fun-sized chocolate bars tucked away somewhere safe? Hope your Halloween
was all treats and no tricks, because after the Frankenstorm - we don't need
any more tricks! As a matter of fact - some of our U.S. suppliers have been
affected. They are anticipating being with out power for a week!!! - so there
may be a few items that we will not be able to restock right away.
Still MORE new Swarovski!
I
did say last week - the new Swarovskis never
arrive all at once! So this week we have more of the Mini
Ovals, more
of the Mini
Squares, more of the Mini
Rounds, and more of the new colours
- Crystal Blue Shade, and Light Turquoise. You've already heard me rant about
that colour! We also have the Crystal Astral Pink in more shapes. The Astral
Pink, as you may remember, isn't entirely new, but is now available in more
shapes and sizes. It is a stunning deep amber honey colour with flashes of
deep rose pink.
Oh, and more keys too!
And, I guess it is now really time to buckle down
and start making Christmas lists and planning what to make and etc. If you
are wondering what to do with all your new beads, we have a few books for
inspiration. Books make great gifts too - even for non-beady friends. Who
knows, you might be able to convert them and bring them over to the beady-side!
You're going to want a Toronto
Bead Society wall calendar - to keep track of your beady events. Makes a great gift too.
If
you have a mess of female friends and relatives to shop for - Earrings! Project:
Earrings has 44 fabulous designs from stitching to stringing to wirework
and chainmail. If you have more than 44 women to make jewelry for - you are
on your own!
If you'd rather go the pendant route - Build
Your Own Wire Pendants may sound like it is from the home construction
section, but is actually 95 pages of clever designs to enhance a single
large bead, or to turn a handful of beads into a stylish, wire wrapped
pendant. It takes the mix and match approach - you choose a frame that
you like, make a bail, and then add your beads. Complex designs from simple
techniques!
And, if you are dropping hints about what YOU would
like for the holiday season, then you may want to start pointing your friends
and family to the Metal Clay section, and have them get you a new book, like
Metal
Clay for Jewelry Makers, the Complete Technique Guide. This is encyclopedic
in scope, (covering beginner and advanced techniques including: forming hinges,
making beads, working with paper clay, adding gemstones, glass and ceramics,
and syringing, burnishing, texturing and using patinas.) And, it is beautifully
illustrated.
So, as always, wonderful, wonderful
new things - all over the site. I leave you to explore at your leisure.
