Basement Craft Room Project - Making progress

I have come to the realization that this project will take me a lot longer than a week. I am quite determined to see this finished though. The sheer amount of work involved is quite staggering! We have cleared through a LOT of junk. You can now actually see the floor! I can walk from one end of the basement to the other without climbing over empty boxes.

I've got on a coat of primer in some spots, and I''m hoping to get the rest of the primer up later today. I ran out of steam yesterday. I'm also heading to goodwill to see if I can find a nice big table.

The plan is to get all storage under the stairs. Once I've got the wood painted, I'll hang up a curtain rod, and get some nice light fabric to hide the storage. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about lighting. I really need it a lot brighter down there than it is. I have to admit I was extremely proud of myself for resisting the temptation to get a fabulous chandelier for over the big table. I saw the perfect one while I was in Home Depot getting the paint. It would have killed my budget though. Chandelier or a sink...hmmm. Practicality won out for once :-) - maybe I'll get lucky and find one at goodwill that I can fix up.

I'm still debating what to do with the walls. I really do want it brighter, but I don't think it's really practical to paint the plastic covering the insulation. If anyone has any ideas...let me know!

Ummm, do you have enough in the kitty to buy white drywall for the walls?? Then you could skip on the painting for a bit. (paint the plastic??....still giggling!!)

And if you REALLY want to see a messy basement, I am extending an invitation for you to check out mine. After "mumble" years of marriage, not to mention all of my daughter's extra antique furniture and what was left over from the sale of my dad's house....well, yours is better. However, we did manage to create some pathways down there, LOL!!

Good luck!!

I had that situation before. I strung up tension wires and bought white sheets from the thrift store. The kids and I made stamps and painted the sheets with our own patterns. We hung them up on the tension wire to cover plastic basement walls. You don't have to decorate them but it was a kids playroom so it worked for us. The sheet wall could even be used as an idea wall by pinning inspiration photos to the sheets. Sometimes you can find nice coloured sheets and do some block colour decorating. Have fun!

I agree with Jem.... Sheets, curtains, anything from the thrift shops.... Fabricland, cheap bolts of cotton? Is there such a thing? Or.... don't worry about it now. Work on lighting and the rest will fall into place.

GO Girl!!!!

if you don't find the big table, I bought a cheap hollow core door and put it on two old file cabinets, which gives you great storage as well, and they are pretty inexpensive. The door is a great size.
